Eden Camp Trip

Yesterday, Year 6 were introduced to their World War II history unit with a trip to Eden Camp. This is a former POW camp which has been turned into a WWII museum. We had a lot of fun exploring the huts and saw lots of amazing exhibits. Everyone is now very excited to begin learning about this fascinating topic in school.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back everyone, and welcome to our new 6C class! It has been a whirlwind first couple of weeks here at ACE and Year 6 has been extremely busy!

Firstly, we have been on our annual local area visit to the Meanwood Valley Trail. This trip links with our work in science, writing, geography and reading for the first few weeks of term and we had a fantastic time exploring the woodland while improving our geographical fieldwork skills.

Forbidden Corner

On Thursday we went on our final trip at ACE to the Forbidden Corner. We stopped at Brymor Ice Cream Parlour for ice cream which was delicious, then went to explore the strange tunnels and mazes at the Forbidden Corner. We all had an amazing time!

Arts Fortnight

We are delighted to have begun our Arts Fortnight this week. We will be working hard over the coming two weeks celebrating our ACE journey. We don’t want to give too much away – you will have wait until the Celebration to which parents and family are invited.

This will take place on Friday 26th June at 1:30pm.

Mindmate Transition Workshop

Today we welcomed representatives from MindMate who delivered a great workshop on transitioning to high school. We talked about the worries we have about moving to high school and we were surprised to find out that many of us have the same worries!

We also considered ways of helping manage our worries and identified who we can rely on for help as we transition to high school.

Fashion Design

Hello all. What a creative class we are in 6C! Today we have been looking at fashion and where designers get their inspiration from. Stella McCartney said that “Fashion should be fun” and that’s what inspired us create these designs.

We made original outfits for our models using newspaper and other materials and I’m sure you will agree that the results are fantastic!

Can you guess any of the concepts? Some clues for you: ‘jellyfish’, ‘fruit’… all sorts of things!

SATS Party!

Well done to everyone in 6C for completing their SATS this week. You all did incredibly well and showed a fantastic attitude all week!

We celebrated this afternoon with a party and had a great time!

The Circulatory System

In Year 6 we learn how blood travels around the body. To illustrate this we mad a board game. Here is an example from Ben, Benjamin and Joseph.

The object of the game is to be the first to reach the brain by travelling to the heart, then going to the lungs to pick up oxygen, then going back to the heart again before being pumped (fully oxygenated) around the rest of the body!

Great job, boys!

Drugs – Identifying Risks

An important part of our PHSE work this half term is about teaching the children to identify and assess risks in relation to drugs, both legal and illegal, as well as alcohol etc.

Today we looked at different scenarios and identified the risks involved, as well as what decisions to make.
